Tell us about Sankranthi? You had done a role in the Tamil original too.
Yes I was a part of Anandam, the Tamil original but in Sankranthi I am doing the role that Devayani did. It is a meaty role and working with Venky was an experience all by itself. He is a wonderful co-star and a very adorable person. His involvement in every aspect of the film making amazed me.
You said that your role is meaty. Are you playing the pivotal role?
Yes I play Venky’s wife who is a very responsible, matured and sensible person. Sarada aunty is playing my Mother-in-law and some changes have been made from the Tamil original to suit the Telugu nativity. We had shot a song in Turkey which is a major highlight in the film. It is my 27th film and it was for the first time that I worked with dance master Raju Sundaram for this song. I think that it has shaped out well.
What is Radhagopalam all about?
It is again a very ambitious project of mine. I am very lucky to have worked with Bapu sir, one of the veterans in the industry. He is a good technician and even at 80 years he has so much of energy and enthusiasm that you hardly see in youngsters these days. He encourages and gets the best out of his actors.
Do you play a homely character in this film?
Yes my hero is Srikanth and contrary to Sankranthi, my character is very bold and outgoing. I can proudly say that Radhagopalam had a wonderful team and after years, you will see a film that is straight out of the heart that will make you laugh, cry and think.
What is your image?
My audiences like me in characters that are homely, traditional and down-to-earth. I am not comfortable in roles that are too glamourous. And luckily I have been able to do some good characters. Right now, I am doing two films in Tamil.
